THE SEA TURTLE FOUNDATION

The Sea Turtle Foundation is an Australian based, not-for-profit organisation and member of 1% For The Planet. Their work focuses on protecting sea turtles through research, education and action.
Sea turtles are among the oldest creatures on earth and have remained essentially unchanged for 110 million years. They have endured many threats to their survival, however in the modern era, the challenge of climate change, ocean pollution, deliberate and accidental deaths from overfishing have pushed this ancient reptile towards extinction.

SEA TURTLES HELP TO:

  • Keep seagrass beds functioning by cropping leaves
  • Distribute seeds amongst seagrass beds.
  • Keep coral reefs growing by feeding on algae.
  • Allow baby coral polyps to attach to them and grow.

TOGETHER, OUR DONATION WILL HELP THE SEA TURTLE FOUNDATION TO:
  • Educate ocean-side locals about the dangers of overfishing and ocean pollution.
  • Rescue stranded turtles in Northern QLD and training others to respond to strandings.
  • Increase protection and management interventions at key nesting, foraging and courtship areas for turtles.
  • Provide tools, equipment and technical support for protection projects in Northern Australia and the Indo-Pacific region.
  • Support research into turtle health and ecology throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
  • Conserve the turtles natural environment, battling with climate change.
