The Askel Small Bag is a statement style and the perfect day-to-day size. The front facing panel is made from an intricately handwoven leather in classic navy and striking orange, with an adjustable leather strap. The interior is lined with cotton and features both an internal zip pouch and open pouch, closing at the top with a sturdy and durable metal zipper.

Material

Cow Hide

Leather is a natural, renewable material made from animal hides that have been preserved and softened through a tanning process. We select our leathers based on their individual properties and the intended application.

Leather lasts a long time, ages well and is easy to care for and repair. Unlike many synthetic materials, leather develops patina over time and gets better with age. Buying a well-made leather product can be considered an investment and supports the slow fashion ethos of “buying less, buying better”. Leather can be recycled or upcycled, and once it reaches the end of its lifecycle it is biodegradable.

This product is made from leather sourced from a Leather Working Group (LWG) audited and rated tannery. LWG aims to improve the environmental impact of the leather industry by assessing and certifying leather manufacturers. The audit protocol covers energy use, waste, water use and chemicals, as well as traceability.

Chromium VI is not used in any tanning processes for our leathers.

Maker

Bharat have been making leather designs for us since 2017. Located in Delhi India the operation is a modern, well organised facility. We visit their workshops at least twice a year and have dedicated people on the ground for Elk working with the Bharat team to assess working conditions, manufacturing processes and to see our goods being made. They are a friendly, open team with a very collaborative environment. Bharat are members of Sedex and have up to date audits in place. Leathers used are selected for their appearance, suitability and hand feel. Every component and element of our pieces are chosen for a reason. Linings, trims and findings are all carefully selected. Each design is both independently tested and internally tested by our production team, at ELK HQ.

Care Instructions

To maintain the beauty of your ELK bag we recommend protective sprays and using a good quality leather conditioner to treat the product, which will increase its longevity. Do not put leather pieces on the ground or rub against abrasive surfaces. Leather is a natural material and will wear with age and use.
